Smriti responded by mentioning instances of violence and atrocities from the past, underscoring that those who talk about justice seem to overlook the pains and struggles faced by certain sections of society. She questioned the silence of those who now speak for justice when they remained silent during incidents like the 1984 riots and the 1993 Mumbai bombings.

During his speech, Rahul Gandhi mentioned his own joint pain, which led to a humorous comment from Smriti, saying she wouldn’t speak about joint pain. Smriti went on to question the Congress’ actions and alliances, citing instances where the party seemingly favored Adani’s interests through various government contracts.

Parliament Updates :

• While coming to the parliament from Sonia Gandhi’s residence, Rahul Gandhi had an accident with a scooter rider. AAP MP Sushil Singh Tomar wore a garland and arrived at the Rajya Sabha, but the proceedings were adjourned until 2 PM amid protests.

• Six bills will be presented in the Rajya Sabha, including the Constitution (Scheduled Castes) Order (Amendment) Bill and the Digital Personal Data Protection Bill. First day of discussion on the no-confidence motion…

Congress posed three questions to the government:

• Why didn’t the Prime Minister visit Manipur? Rahul went, INDIA Alliance members went, Home Minister went.

• Why did it take 80 days to speak about Manipur? If you have something to say, say it in just 30 seconds. No words expressing remorse have been spoken yet.

• Why wasn’t the Minister of Manipur dismissed? Does the Chief Minister of Manipur have a special blessing that he’s admitting to intelligence failure?

Congress listed three reasons for Modi not speaking:

  • PM will have to admit that the double-engine government in Manipur has failed.
  • The Home and Defense Departments failed in Manipur.
  • The Prime Minister doesn’t want to admit to the public that he has forgotten them.

BJP responded:

Waiting for Rahul’s speech, seems like he wasn’t prepared :-

• Nishikant Dubey, representing the government, responded. He said, “We were expecting Rahul Gandhi to speak, but he didn’t. It seems Rahul ji wasn’t prepared; he must have woken up late.”

• Dubey remarked, “Sonia ji provides a full picture of what the Indian woman should do. She has two tasks – setting up her son and presenting a gift to her son-in-law.”

• The no-confidence motion usually fails in the House, but why is the opposition still using it?

In 1963, Praja Socialist Party leader J.B. Kripalani presented the first no-confidence motion in the Lok Sabha. However, the PM Jawaharlal Nehru-led government successfully obtained a majority in the vote. Acharya Kripalani had said while presenting the motion, “It’s a matter of great sorrow for me that I have to present a proposal against a government in which many of my 30-year-old friends are involved.

Despite this, I am presenting this proposal for the sake of my conscience and the voice of my soul, for holding the government accountable.” In response, PM Jawaharlal Nehru said, “Such motions periodically test the governments, especially when there is no possibility of the government falling.” During the no-confidence motion, MPs from all parties ask questions related to their states or the nation. The government is required to answer.

In 2018, TDP MPs questioned issues related to Andhra Pradesh. After 2019, PM participated in a total of 7 debates in the Lok Sabha As per Parliament records, after 2019, PM Modi participated in a total of 7 debates in the Lok Sabha during his tenure. Out of these, five times he responded after the President’s speech. Once he responded as the Prime Minister in the capacity of the Lok Sabha Speaker during the swearing-in ceremony of Om Birla.
