According to the latest report from Fortune India, Shah Rukh Khan is now the highest taxpayer among Indian celebrities. For the fiscal year 2023-24, he paid an impressive Rs 92 crore in taxes. This significant contribution underscores not only his tremendous earnings but also his dedication to fulfilling his financial responsibilities.

Following Shah Rukh Khan, Tamil film icon Thalapathy Vijay is second on the list. Vijay paid Rs 80 crore in taxes, reflecting his substantial income from the Tamil film industry. The top five list also includes other notable names like Amitabh Bachchan and Salman Khan, who are well-known figures in Indian cinema.
Among Indian athletes, cricketer Virat Kohli leads the charge. Kohli’s impressive performance on the field and his various endorsements have ensured his place at the top of the list for Indian sports personalities.
In contrast, some popular celebrities are not as prominent in the tax-paying rankings. Actors like Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor fall behind in the list, with Aamir Khan paying Rs 10 crore and Kareena Kapoor paying Rs 20 crore. Comedian Kapil Sharma, known for his television shows, paid   Rs 26 crore in taxes, placing him 11th in the overall list. Despite his significant earnings, Bollywood star Akshay Kumar is missing from the top 20 taxpayers, having paid   Rs 25 crore in taxes last year.
In 2022-23, Shah Rukh Khan saw a remarkable increase in his net worth. His wealth grew by Rs 1300 crore, thanks to the massive success of his films “Pathaan” and “Jawan.” According to Forbes, Shah Rukh Khan’s net worth was Rs 5116 crore in 2022. After the success of these films, his net worth increased by 8%, reaching Rs 6411 crore. This surge has elevated him to the position of the fourth richest actor in the world, surpassing stars like Jackie Chan and Tom Cruise.
“Pathaan,” one of his blockbuster hits, earned   Rs 1050 crore at the box office. Shah Rukh Khan had a profit-sharing contract with Yash Raj Productions for this film, receiving 60% of the profits, in addition to a Rs 100 crore fee. His production house, Red Chillies Entertainment, produced “Jawan,” allowing him to benefit directly from the OTT and channel rights.
In the category of female celebrities, Kareena Kapoor stands out as the highest taxpayer. She paid Rs 20 crore in taxes for the fiscal year 2024. This amount places her above other actors like Shahid Kapoor and South Indian star Mohanlal, who each paid Rs 18 crore.
Forbes and Hurun India have also updated their rich lists for 2024. Shah Rukh Khan leads the Hurun India Rich List with a net worth of Rs 7300 crore. He made his debut in this list this year, cementing his status as one of the wealthiest individuals in India. Juhi Chawla, another prominent Bollywood actress, is second on the list with a net worth of Rs 4600 crore.
